Nicaragua

My favourite place in Nicaragua is Granada. I enjoy colonial cities and this one came as a real surprise to me - it is a wonderful town with many buildings in reasonable condition, wide streets with horse and carts still in use by locals to ferry goods around.

Isla de Ometepe in Lago Nicaragua is also a wonderful place to walk, enjoy the butterflies and birds, friendly locals and the two massive volcanoes. We were lucky enough to have a break in the clouds one afternoon to see Volcan Concepcion.

Baseball is the national sport of Nicaragua. If you can, go to the town's baseball field on Sunday and watch a game - it is a genuine cultural event.
