Costa Rica
The wildlife and forests in Costa Rica were easily the highlights of the country for us. However, trying to see some of the animals was very difficult, but with the help of guides we managed to see an amazing amount. The best walk we had was, surprisingly, Manuel Antonio National Park where we saw 3 types of monkey including the endangered squirrel monkey, a boa, 2 and 3-toed sloths, an armadillo, turtles, lizards, lots of spiders and insects, 2 types of bats, a deer, a salamander, land crabs as well as many different plants and lots of birds. Just astonishing diversity in a small area.
The forest in Monteverde was also amazing. We saw virtually no wildlife there as we had no guide, but the forest itself was truly magical and a lovely walk in itself. Outside of the reserve is a hummingbird feeding station where around 30 hummingbirds of various species were feeding. They are so beautiful!
